AWAKENING
My Latest Quilt
I have been exploring how to give quilts (wall hangings) dimensionality through layering. My first effort in this series, "Homage to Vincent", which I privately call "King Kong" (for the sunflower type of that name) will be going to the In Full Bloom 2014 exhibit at the International Quilt Festival in Houston this year. Anyway, this new quilt has petals that are almost like little quilts - complete "packages" of 3 layers fmq'ed. I just hand appliqued some leaves on top of the background fabric that I had already fmq'ed. I wonder if the quilt police will think the leaves are an improper after thought. LOL Anyway, I love the look of densely fmq'ed background fabric that takes on a look like brocade. Love it! Despite now having and enjoying my new Janome, I still fmq'ed the background on my Bernina 820.
