I design and create art quilts. I enjoy the process of creating and making quilts. I love the complexity and various stages of creating the quilt - from the beginnings of finding an idea and colorful, sensuous fabrics through developing the idea into a design and pattern, to construction by machine and hand sewing embellishments and finally to free motion quilting the layers together.
I began making bed quilts in the 1980's and moved on to making art quilts in the 1990's. When "life" intervened, I stopped making quilts until around 2010. In those intervening years quilt making changed a lot. Machine quilting, embellishment and technology have opened an ever expanding range of creative possibilities. The challenge is to maintain technical quality while integrating those creative possibilities.
Some of the venues where my quilts have been exhibited include:
International Quilt Festival, Houston
Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza
Quilt Festival of New Jersey
Vermont Quilt Festival
As an arts administrator, I developed and administered programs that provide arts access to people with disabilities. I also developed and curated an exhibition gallery and an outsider art archive. As a community activist, I have organized community based actions that advocate for arts accessibility for people with disabilities and for community interests.
Enjoy my quilts and my musings on life.
